The
team statement
" I saw a house like a body where the soul resides. Kamal saw it as a shelter. We choose the form of a cube because of its purity of dimensions and a site to rest in. The sheet metal, considered a base material has always excited me, and it assuming a preciousness when it is made into an object displayed in a gallery, is like skin: - hardy and yet vulnerable to the elements. While a house is to be looked out form, we conceived this work to be looked into - a voyeurism. A house while protecting also cuts out what it protects. Thus we conceived these "peep holes" which invite and tantalize. While engineering and titled the structure to create a sense of lightness and grace with the light giving the impression of it floating. It has been very exciting for us to design and execute JK House…." Kamal Malik + Jehangir Jani |
